Found amongst the grass in moist, shady places in springtime, the small-flowered catchfly, Silene gallica, varies from pale to palest pink. The flowers are arranged in one-sided spikes of 10 or more flowers. There are five petals with central crown and rounded calyx tube marked with deep purple veins. The whole plant is hairy.
