Matthiola tricuspidata is a plant specialist, adapted to resist the stresses of life on the sandy shore. It is found on or just above the high water line, often accompanied by Medicago marina and Cakile maritima.

M. tricuspidata can readily be identified by the three horned seed pods which give it it's name.
