Micromeria graeca

Greek savory                                                                                     Ύσσωπος

Lamaceae - mint family                                                                                Dicot.

Like many plants which we consider to be typical Mediterranean plants Micromeria graeca has many adaptations to  survive the hot dry environment; small, narrow, thickened leaves and glandular hairs which produce volatile compounds which surround the plant and reduce water loss.

Extracts of Micromeria graeca have been shown to reduce toxins produced by fungi which commonly damage crops

in the field or in storage. It could make a valuable contribution in the development of green farming, which avoids the use of anti-fungal agents and aims to maintain biological diversity.
