Papaver dubium

Long headed poppy                                                        Παπαρούνα μακρόκαρπη

Papaver dubium is similar but less robust than the commoner Papaver rhoeas , this poppy is found on roadsides, olive groves and waste ground. The bright red disc shaped petals sometimes but not always have a red patch at the base.

There are fewer stamens and the stigma  disc is more prominent than P. rhoeas but the main differentiating feature is as it's common name suggests is it's longer, narrower seed head.

The leaves are deeply cut and stems have adpressed hairs.
