All the plants of the fumaria genus have smokey names because of the smell of roots. Often found growing out of small cracks in walls, ramping fumitory, is an annual, which grows rapidly to form a straggly bush of long flexible stems, with delicate, finely divided, lacy leaves with one sided spikes of unusual white flowers, tipped with deep purple: it is a humble but elegant plant.
