Like many of the other species of medic, blackdisc medic, Medicago orbicularis, has small yellow pea flowers and leaves with three leaflets, trifoliate leaves. The species is distinguished by its flattened round fruits, formed from 3 to 6 tight coils; this give rise to a number of descriptive common names Black-disc medic, button medic and round fruited medic.
