The flowers of Tuberaria guttata, with 5 bright yellow petals, are easily distinguished by the dark reddish-brown spot on each petal. Sometimes the spots on the petals are larger and form a continuous ring around the centre. The flowers, which are annuals, enjoy dry sunny sites.
Tuberaria guttata is a Mediterranean species, but is distributed continuously along the western coast of France as far as the Channel Isles, with isolated populations on the west of Wales and the west of Ireland.
