A common weed of the Mediterranean, Bellardia viscosa is considered to be hemi-parasitic, obtaining nutrition from the roots of other plants. The bright yellow, tubular flowers are arranged in crowded spikes , amongst the green leaves of the upright stems. The whole plant is covered in hairs, which produce a sticky fluid: this gives rise to both the  and the scientific names of the plant.
