Echium italicum

Pale bugloss                                                                                         Έχιο το Ιταλικό

Boraginaceae - borage family                                                                                Dicot.

The tall stately plant of Echium italicum can be found growing in the wild garden surrounding the lighthouse on the exposed northern-most cape of Skopelos, Akrotiri Faros Gourouni. The pyramidal plants are quite robust when fully grown but the flowers are surprisingly delicate; they are translucent and vary in colour from barely pink to barely blue. The plant is covered in stiff hairs, which help it survive the high temperatures and light levels experienced in this exposed site.
