The lupins have small pea flowers arranged in whorls at the top of the stem to form a spike.The deep blue flowers Lupinus pilosus have two white marks on standard petal. The leaves are palpate with usually 5-10 leaflets which radiate from a central node.  Lupinus pilosus, as it's name suggests is covered in hairs including the upper surface of the leaves which are also in whorls around the curving stem. Like all the members of the pea family the seeds are in pods.
