Ophrys bombyliflora is a delightful little orchid which has a flower whose design mimics a bumblebee. The subtly coloured plants form small colonies in springtime. The lip is rich dark brown with a shiny body and hairy lateral projections which resemble wings.  The lateral sepals and petals are pale green. It grows in short grass or sites which are clear of other vegetation, often in phrygana shielded by prickly neighbours.
