Often found alongside the commoner pyramidal orchid, this beautiful, pink orchid can be distinguished by the oblong arrangement of the flowers, the purplish splodges on the leaves and stem and the characteristic shape of the individual flowers. These are said to resemble the figure of a tiny man, or more accurately a man with a tail, hence the ancient Greek name for the flower "satyrkos".
