Allium roseum

Rosy garlic                                                                                           Άλλιο το ρόδινο

Amaryllidaceae - amaryllis family                                                                          Mono.

The rosy garlic flowers found on Skopelos are not the blowsy blooms advertised in gardening catalogues, but delicate pink flowers, which emerge from shiny reddish-purple buds. They have fine, grass-like leaves and stems, which emit a garlicky smell when crushed. The bulbs can be used like garlic, but are much milder and so are a pleasant addition to salads.

The plants are found in moist ground close to the sea.
