Horsetail knotgrass Κοινό όνομα άγνωστο
Polygonaceae - knotweed family Dicot.
polygonum from Greek poly = many (πολλή) + gonum = knee (γόνατο)
equiset from genus name for horsetails from latin = horse + formis = shape
Arising from a thickened reddish stem with bright green lance shaped leaves the long, green flexible stems of Polygonum equisetiformis form a tangled mass with those of neighbouring plants. The weed has tiny pink flowers at joints along its length. Generally growing in late summer and autumn, it is found in neglected gardens and fallow fields.
