This tiny plant with delicate pink flowers, Silene sedoides, is found along rocky shorelines throughout the Mediterranean. It is one of a number of species of the Silene genus, present on Skopelos and it shows adaptations, which allow it to survive the coastal environment, an annual plant, it completes its life cycle before the excessive temperatures of high summer; the leaves are small and slightly succulent, allowing the plant to conserve water and the whole plant is covered with glandular hairs, which exude moisture, surrounding it in vapour, protecting from the harsh heat and sunlight.
