Growing in rocky sites in forest clearings; the creeping thyme, Thymus longicaulis; flowers earlier than the more common, Thymbra capitata. The clustered flowers are held on upright red stalks; they have red sepals, pink petals and prominent pink stamens. The plants are highly aromatic and contain a variety of aromatic oils  and have culinary and medicinal uses and in production of cosmetics and perfumes
