Crupina crupinastrum has small but striking, brilliant purple flowers which are suspended above the surrounding vegetation on stiff, tall, thin, branching stems. There are 12-17 ray florets with divided petals above the oval, bract covered head (the hypanth). It grows in rocky ground on the edge of fields, on the roadside and in phrygana.
