A plant typical of hot, dry, stony places, Micromeria juliana has tiny leaves and tiny purple flowers arranged in crowded whorls around the numerous unbranched stems. The plants are perennial and the dry skeletons of  previous years flowering spikes often remain. Like many members of the Lamiaceae family, the plants contain an abundance of fragrant essential oils and has been widely used in folk medicine, when it is prepared as a tea.
