This plant, as it's name suggests has the typical 3 leaved arrangement of the clovers, but it has single flowers in leaf axils rather than the more usual clustered terminal, clover heads. It forms spreading mats which cling to the dry, crumbly soil of the rocky sea cliffs.
The dull green leaves are green marked with white and the petals of the small flowers are white, on some plants, pure white and others they are white touched with purple-pink. They have a green tubular calyx marked with purple lines.
