The bristly poppy as its English name suggests is distinguished by its bristly seed heads. It is considered to be a hybrid between Papaver Rhoeas and Papaver dubium. The poppy shown here was a single specimen found in the corner of a field full of other poppies, consistent with the idea that it is a cross between them. Although on a tall stem the flower head was smaller and colour somewhat purplish as compared to the other poppies of the field.
