Similar to the related Daucus carota,but is distinguished by the green bracts surrounding the flower head extending beyond the umbel; the plants .are generally smaller and more delicate. The species is considered to be genetically closer to the domesticated carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativa) than wild D. carota.
