Common white clover occurs throughout Europe in damp grassland. it thrives in anthropomorphised environments including lawns and playgrounds, where children will often search for four leaf clover leaves, which are considered lucky in many countries including Greece.

Trifolium repens is a nutritious plant which is grown as a fodder crop, the young green leaves can be eaten as salad greens. It also adds nitrogen to the soil, which acts as a fertiliser for surrounding plants.
