A common throughout the Mediterranean, this inconspicuous little plant grows in arid environments: on the beach, at the base of rocky outcrops and even in the gravel of the road edge. The leaves are arranged in overlapping whorls and close examination reveal tiny yellow flowers which develop into fruiting bodies which are covered in stiff hairs.
